MAC names all-conference teams in softball, baseball, lacrosse and tennis

King's College freshman Lyndsey Hoerner (Northern Lebanon) was selected to All-Freedom Conference Softball First Team, while Lebanon Valley College senior Amy Batz (Cedar Crest) was picked for the All-Commonwealth Conference Softball First Team.

Named to the First Team All-Commonwealth Conference baseball squad are: LVC junior John Mentzer (Elco) and Juniata College junior Dan Kauffman (Penn Manor). Mentzer was also tabbed as Co-Player of the Year. The Second Team includes Elizabethtown College senior Ryan White (Cedar Crest), LVC freshman W. Grant Wiest (Manheim Twp), Messiah freshman Jordan Zimmerman (Warwick) and LVC senior Matt Sanders (Annville-Cleona).

The 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Second Team stars Elizabethtown College freshman attack Aaron Weber (Manheim Twp), Widener junior midfielder Luke Weber (Manheim Twp) and Elizabethtown junior defender Eric Peifer (Hempfield).

In tennis, First Team All-Commonwealth Conference players include LVC senior Erik Vargo (Lancaster Catholic) and Messiah College junior Nathan Ipsen (Hempfield). On the roster of the Second Team is Juniata senior Brandon Long (Lebanon).

Westbrook is indoor track Rookie of Year

IUP freshman Ceasar Westbrook (McCaskey) was named PSAC Rookie of the Year in men's indoor track and field. At the conference championships, Westbrook placed fourth in the long jump and second in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 48'-6 1/4". At the national meet, he just missed All-America status by placing ninth in the triple jump.

Franklin & Marshall College junior forward Derek Hines (Manheim Twp.) has been named a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, which honors the Division III Men's and Women's Basketball Outstanding Athletes of the Year. Recipients of the Jostens Trophy must exhibit excellence in basketball, academics and community service. Designed and sponsored by Jostens and the Rotary Club of Salem, Virginia, the 64-pound trophy stands nearly two feet tall and features an eight-inch crystal basketball. Recipients will be announced in conjunction with the Division III Men's Championship Tournament in March.

Washington & Jefferson sophomore Brittany Bertoli (Hempfield) wrapped up her first season as a three-time PAC Champion. Bertoli won the 200 butterfly (2:10.49), setting a new team record. She then took first in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:00.24 and swam a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay, which qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Widener's Weber is pre-season lacrosse All-American

For the second straight year, Widener junior midfielder Luke Weber (Manheim Twp) has been named an honorable mention Inside Lacrosse Division III Preseason All-American. Last season Weber ended tied for fourth in the conference with 33 goals, fifth with 51 points, tied for sixth with 18 assists, tied for first with 10 man-up goals and tied for fifth with 81 ground balls. The 2005 MAC Rookie of the Year also recorded a team-best 84 ground balls and won 57 percent of his face-offs.

Shippensburg senior Kendra Emery (Lancaster Mennonite) scored a goal in a loss to IUP in the NCAA Division II field hockey quarterfinals. The loss signified the final game in the careers of Emery and senior Natalie Grazan (Manheim Central). Emery played in 88 of Ship's 90 games during her career. She finishes her career with 29 assists, ranking her 18th all-time in Division II history. Grazan finished second on the team and sixth in the conference in scoring, totaling 41 points on 17 goals and seven assists. Grazan also finished her career with 57 goals, which is second on the school's career list.
